Mini-Reivew: Call of Duty 4, Modern Warfare

February 11th, 2008 by admin

Charlie-Oscar-Delta…

This is my first video game review. So, here goes.

After playing Rainbow Six Vegas for many a week, I decided it was time to move on and pick up one of the most hyped games of last year. That game would be Call of Duty 4. Call of Duty is a series of first-person shooters that are known for their semi-realism, large battles and awesome graphics. COD4 doesn’t let down in those departments, although, to an extent, it is a departure from the past three games. COD4 is set in modern day, instead of in WW2 like the past games, and uses modern day weapons like the Barrett .50BMG rifle, the M16, FN P90, M4, M14, AK47, etc.

When I first started this game, I was used to simulation style FPS (like Vegas) and therefore used to picking my weapons before the beginning of each level. COD4 doesn’t let you do this, unfortunately, as its not the same type of game–you start with whatever kind of weapon that level begins with. At first this kind of bogged me down a bit, but as time went along, I began to realize that there were many different types of weapons that would be littered along the levels both from fallen Marines and from bad guys alike and I learned to live with it.  And to tell the truth, I think it may have helped the game.

Taking away a lot of the simulation stuff, I believe, helped me to get more into the story. And what a story it is. This game gets you involved with your characters. You care for them. This isn’t just a war game, where the fate of the world is at hand, but the fate of your friends as well. The story has, without a doubt, the coolest scripted events ever and some of the firefights left me breathless. And heartbroken. Unless you eat fire for breakfast, I wouldn’t suggest playing this game on Veteran, the hardest difficulty, as some of the levels left me hating the game for a short bit.

The multiplayer game is awesome as well with great weapons and level design. Nothing like getting 8 headshots with the Barrett then bringing down a hell-storm from an air strike.

All in all, an awesome, superb game. Check it out. Just don’t drink and play… or you will die… over and over… again. Therefore I give it 8/10 Peppers.

Lost, Season 4…

January 31st, 2008 by admin

Get.. Lost?

Its back on, and I am excited! You may remember, a long, long time ago, I posted a post about the awesome TV show Lost returning after the season was over. This year it returns for 8 (if not 16) episodes aired back to back. Tonight is the first of the eight and it is a two hour long ‘event’ as ABC calls it. If you’ve never seen Lost before, I’d heavily recommend heading to ABC and watching their Lost recap and then watch tonight. See you all later.

Let Me See Your… Poker Face!

January 30th, 2008 by admin

It’s just like Casino Royale…

Towards the end of February, right after my birthday on the 26th, my grandparents and Jennifer and I are heading to Tunica, MS. There we shall vacation for a few nights. Tunica is an area with a lot of casinos, and as Jennifer and I have never gambled, we’re going to spend about $15 dollars playing games. In preparing myself, I’ve learned Texas Hold ‘Em (which I probably won’t play their as buy-ins are probably five-fifty dollars). In doing so, I’ve learned poker hands in general and hope to play 5-card stud on the little machines, so I’m excited. But what I wanted to say is that Hold ‘Em is THE fun-est thing I’ve played in a long time. If you’ve never played, I’d recommend giving it a try!

Mini-Reivew: Blair’s XXX Hot Fire Roasted Habanero Salsa

January 29th, 2008 by admin

Wow… Um, Ouch…

So, yesterday, me, being an idiot, left my lunch at home. Come lunch time I needed some food. I had a few tortilla chips on my desk but no salsa… Or so I thought. A few nights ago, my dear friend Bill here at work, gave me about half a jar of Blair’s XXX Hot Fire Roasted Hab Salsa. And I left it in my trunk. A wonderful mistake! I ran out to my car and brought it in, glad that it’s been in the teens now for the past couple of days.

I cracked it open and dumped it all out in a bowl and brought it back into my desk. And started eating it. Within a few bites I realized that, unlike most, this hot sauce being called XXX hot was not a gimick. It was actually damn hot. Through the pain that kept building, it tasted wonderful and fresh even thought it was jarred. Garlic was big and so was the hab pepper. Yummy all-a-round. As I was eating it as lunch, I finished off half the jar, taking huge scoops with my ten or so chips. I don’t know if I’d recommended doing that. I was in wonderful pain for almost an hour after finishing.

Salsa was very, very good, with a heck of a kick to it. If you ever get a chance, give it a try. 7/10 Peppers.

A Quick Goodbye— To My Camry…

January 24th, 2008 by admin

So Sad…

I’ve had my Toyota Camry, a 1991 4 Door Sedan, for 3 years now. Yesterday, while driving down I-75, it bit the dust. The engine on it locked up and I found myself walking, about two miles, to the nearest exit. I want to thank the two state troopers who passed by me and didn’t stop to give me a ticket for walking along the interstate… or offer any assistance (I’m sure they probably had somewhere they needed to be, and I got along just fine. I thought it was funny). I was late for work, which makes me angry and I was upset for a bit as I didn’t know what to do. I ending up getting it towed, which cost me $50 that I didn’t really have.

But with the bad, you see, comes the good. I believe in Floating On. By that, I mean, that life equals out. Basically, deus ex machina. For you see, my grandparents (who are the best), yesterday, gave me a 2001 Dodge Stratus, with actual air-conditioning and a hell of a speaker system. It turns out they’ve been saving it for me since my grandfather bought his new truck last year. They knew that the Camry wouldn’t last me forever. I love it.

I loved my Camry. It was with us on our anniversary. When I went to OpenFields last year. To Chattanooga. To Nashville. To the Jack Daniel’s Distillery. 4 Wheeling at RoyalBlue. It got us out into the world. May this new car do the same. My Camry, as stinky, smelly, moldy and loud as it was, has found a home.

Goodnight Camry.
